Hugh of Saint-Victor’s ‘Chronicle’ (De tribus maximis circumstantis gestorum): Creation & Restoration (Septuagint chronology)

Unedited.

Lines 1–7 in the first two columns are entitled Condicio (the Creation); the rest of the first two columns is headed Secundum lxx interpretes (‘Following the Septuagint interpretation’) with homo (heading a list of personal names, beginning with Adam), genuit (‘begat’, with a list of numbers), and in the second ruled column, uixit (‘lived’, with a list of numbers).

After 11 lines it is stated Prima etas annos iimccxlii continens (‘The First Age comprises 2,242 years’, in red ink except for cc).

After 10 more names are listed in the first column, it is stated across the foot of the first and second columns, Secunda etas annos imlxxii continens (‘The Second Age comprises 1,072 years’).

The third column lists names from Abraham to Samuel, then King Saul followed by Tercia etas dccccxlii (‘Third Age 942’, all but the final two minims are in red ink). The list of kings continues for the rest of the third column and onto the fourth until (line 10), Quarta etas cccclxxxiiii (‘Fourth Age 484’). This is followed by Transmigratio lxx (‘Exile: 70’) and 22 names.
