In the 1198th year Pope Celestine died on 8 January; Innocent succeeded him. Roger, son of the earl of Leicester, was consecrated bishop of St Andrews on the first Sunday in Lent.1 Archibald, abbot of Dunfermline, died; Robert of Berwick succeeded him. Alexander son of William, king of Scots, was born on the day of St Bartholomew the apostle;2 and many rejoiced at his birth.









In the 11 \99th / 9th year Jocelin, bishop of Glasgow, died at Melrose on 17 March.3 Richard, king of England, died on 12 April. Dom Arnold, abbot of Rievaulx, resigned his pastoral charge; Dom William of Puncharde succeeded him. John, king of England, was crowned on Ascension day.4 Hugh the chancellor died on 10 July. Matthew, bishop of Aberdeen, died on 20 August. William Malveisin became chancellor on 8 September.










In the 1200th year Dom William, master of the lay brothers of Melrose, became abbot of Coupar on 15 January. The lord William Malveisin was consecrated.5
